ODL PROGRAMMES
1. Is there an age limit for this programme?
No, there is no age limit as long as you meet all the admission requirements.
2. Is 'Open and Distance Learning' mentioned on my certificate?
No, the Open and Distance Learning status is only indicated on your transcript.
3. Where can I find more information about the UMK ODL?
Every new student will receive a student handbook, which serves as an essential guide for the programme.
4. Do I need to visit or be on campus?
No, travelling to the UMK campus is not necessary. You can complete our distance learning programme from anywhere in the world.
5. Where will the convocation ceremony be held?
The convocation ceremony will be held at UMK Bachok, Malaysia
6. Can I study part-time while working full-time?
Yes, our ODL programmes are designed to accommodate working professionals. You can study at your own pace and manage your learning schedule around your work commitments.


TEACHING & LEARNING OF ODL
1. What equipment is needed for teaching and learning activities?
You will need a computer or laptop with a camera, microphone, and speaker, along with a strong internet connection (at least 1 Mbps download and 0.5 Mbps upload speeds) and an up-to-date web browser
2. Do I need to attend any physical classes?
For ODL students, all classes are conducted virtually. Attendance is taken for synchronous classes, but recorded sessions are available if you miss a class. However, some programmes requiring practical or hands-on activities may require physical attendance.
3. What is LMS?
LMS stands for Learning Management System. It is the central platform for all your learning activities. The official online learning platform for UMK ODL is https://odlsystem.umk.edu.my.
4. How are online courses delivered?
Courses are delivered through a combination of synchronous meetings and asynchronous activities on the LMS. Lecturers also conduct live online lectures for real-time communication
5. How can I contact my lecturer for academic questions?
At the beginning of each semester, you will receive your lecturer’s contact details, which can also be found in the LMS.
6. Where can I access my learning materials, lectures, and examination results?
All learning materials, lectures, and examination results are accessible through the Open Distance Learning Management System (ODL LMS) at https://odlsystem.umk.my/.
7. Where do I submit my assignments?
All assignments must be submitted through the LMS. Your lecturer will guide you through the submission process.
8. How can I track my progress in the course?
You can monitor your academic progress, including completed assignments and grades, through the ODL LMS.

ACCREDITATION OF PRIOR EXPERIENCE LEARNING (APEL)
What is APEL?
Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) involves recognizing, documenting, and assessing prior learning from experience to gain admission to a degree program or receive exemptions. It allows individuals to access undergraduate or postgraduate programs (APEL.A) or shorten their study duration (APEL.C).
What is APEL.A?
APEL.A allows individuals with work experience but without formal academic qualifications to pursue higher education.
What are the APEL.A application criteria?
  • Master's Degree level: Applicants must be at least 30 years old with relevant work experience and qualifications such as STPM/Diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's Degree level: Applicants must be at least 21 years old with relevant work experience.
How long does the APEL.A assessment take?
The APEL.A assessment can take 2 to 4 months. It is recommended to apply for APEL.A certification at least 6 months before the intended program start date.
Does the APEL certificate have a validity period?
Yes, the APEL.A certificate is valid for five years from the date of issue. Certificates issued before January 1, 2023, are valid until December 31, 2027.
What is APEL.C?
APEL.C refers to the award of credits for prior experiential learning towards a course in an accredited program.
What is the maximum limit for APEL.C applications?
The maximum limit is 30% of the minimum graduation credits for a program, in addition to the formal credit transfer policy limit.
